Bareknuckle Gentleman

Bareknuckle Gentleman

Boxers are a recurring theme in my work, predominately bareknuckle boxers and pugilists from the 18th and 19th century. These characters in part are metaphor for how I see an aspect of myself in relation to the world. Boxers and artists live in parallel universes and have may similarities dispite the considerable different in their craft. Both operate in a world that shine a light on their own individual performance and are driven by a need to succeed and to be acknowledge and recognised for who they are. The black boxers of the 18th century were usually a freed slave who used his athleticism and strength to fight his way to freedom.

The series of boxers are available as original drawings 55cm x 70cm on Italian Fabrino Artistico paper (Hotpressed)
