Queensbury
Limited edition, hand-finished screen print.
From an ongoing series of works examining pugilists, inspired by the lives and oral histories of freed slaves and working-class men in Georgian London and England, circa 1780 onwards.
The series explores boxing as both spectacle and survival, where the bare-knuckle ring became a space of resistance, endurance, and self-definition within rigid social hierarchies. Through these figures, the work reflects on class, masculinity, and the pursuit of dignity in an era shaped by poverty, exploitation, and emerging public entertainment.
